Abstract In determining surface properties, contact angle measurement plays an important role via Young's equation. The contact angle, θ, is a quantitative measure of wetting of a solid by a liquid. It is defined geometrically as the angle formed by a liquid at the three-phase boundary, where a liquid, gas, and solid intersect, and is measured by the well-known Young's equation. There are many direct and indirect methods available for estimating the contact angle. The measurement of contact angle is useful in determining surface properties such as surface tension, surface energy, etc.
