A Study on the Winter Wheat Covered with Plastic Film in Dry Irrigated Areas in Talimu Basin

The cultivation experiments on winter wheat with plastic film covering were conducted in dry irrigated areas of Talimu Basin in 1996～1998. The experimental achievements indicate that the method had significant results in both yield increasing and water saving,and brought about good economic benefits,and so it should be popularized at even higher speed.Under the unique ecological environment in dry irrigated area, bunch planting covered with film in both normal and delayed time provided higher production than that of bare sowing. And with the planting time further delayed, yield increasing scale rose sharply, thus making the delayed sowing catch up with the normal sowing. The multiple ear varieties of winter wheat are recommended when using this method.
