Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and adverse reaction of Quetiapine compared with Risperidone in the treatment of patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Methods:This was an open-ladel,parallel,dose-flexible,12-months follow up study with integrated case management and naturalistic observation. Patients with first-episode schizophrenia were assigned to treatment with Quetiapine (n=48) or Risperidone (n=50). The primary efficacy measure included the relapse rate, the recurrence time and the continued treatment time. PANSS,TESS was used to evaluate efficacy and the adverse reaction.Results:Thirty-nine patients(81.3%) in Quetiapine group and 40 patients (80.0%) in Risperidone group completed the full follow-up study,The response rates at the end of 12 months of Quetiapine group and Risperidone group were 72.6% and 79.8% respectively (P0.05). Quetiapine and Rispenridone groups for the relapse rate (13.5%,12.9%,respectively),the Continued treatment time (7.5±3.8 months,7.7±3.8 months, respectively) and the recurrence time (5.0±2.9 months,5.8±2.8 ion:Both Quetiapine and Risperidone were effective for patients with first-episode sehizmonths, respectively) at the end of 12 month. And so there was no statistically significant difference (all P 0.05).Quetiapine was associated with more dizziness and Risperidone with more EPS.Conclusions:Schizophrenia for l year, small adverse reactions.
