Abstract The preparation of 2‐iodo‐4‐nitro‐anisole from the nitration of 4‐iodo‐anisole, involving the migration of iodine from the 4‐position to the 2‐position during the nitration and is generally known as the Reverdin rearrangement. It has been reported that only catalytic amount of the nitro source is needed for this reaction, if the nitro group already exists on the aromatic ring. This reaction has various applications in organic synthesis.
