242 Exploring the Effects of Perceived Parenting Styles on Outcomes of Body Image Dissatisfaction and Social Anxiety among Young Adults

Anxiety disorders are highly prevalent in children and adolescents and are associated with significant impairments across several functional domains. Despite substantial advancements in knowledge and understanding of anxiety disorders in young people, these disorders are still unrecognized and undertreated. This article examines anxiety disorders in childhood and adolescence. First, it presents a review of the research on the prevalence, course, symptom presentation, etiology, comorbidity, and impact of anxiety disorders in youth. Next, it describes the most commonly used assessment measures and then describes and reviews the efficacy of evidence-based treatments. The article concludes with a discussion of the key challenges in the field.
