The front cover picture, designed by Marco Dyga from the group of Lukas J. Gooßen, illustrates an electrochemically enabled synthesis of aryl thiocyanates. The electrolysis of inexpensive, non-toxic thiocyanate salt yields the reactive pseudohalogen thiocyanogen, (SCN)2. Its reaction with arylboron compounds, e.g., aryl trifluoroborates, in a metal-free, electrophilic ipso-substitution, yields the corresponding thiocyanates, which are widely used as intermediates in medicinal chemistry.
