The fatigue resistance and wear resistance between nodular graphite cast iron crankshaft treated by gas nitrocarburing after normalizing and forged steel crankshaft by medium frequency induction hardening after tempering were compared. Experimental results showed that above gas nitrocarburing of nodular graphite cast iron crankshaft are superior to those of forged steel crankshaft. A preliminary discussion on the structure character of nodular graphite cast iron crankshaft by nitrocarburizing and approaches to further improve the fatigue life are made as well.
