abstractJECTIVE To investigate the effect of three types of tympanoplasty. METHODS Type I tympanoplasty: Otitis media patch method was used in simple perforations of tympanic membrane with trauma and inner-transplant method in antiquated perforations. Type II tympanoplasty: When incus and malleus were eroded off with normal stapes, bone cortex was fixed to the head of stapes in order to make the stapes connect to the artificial tympanic membrane. Tympanoplasty III: When only footplate of stapes was left (or even without footplate), tympanic columella made of bone cortex was used to link the footplate (or fat tissue in vestibu-lar window) and artificial tympanic membrane. RESULTS Type I tympanoplasty was applied in 597 cases with 573 cases successful, Type II tympanoplasty in 53 cases with 49 cases successful, Type III tympanoplasty in 15 cases with 14 cases successful. The overall successful rate was 94.8 %. CONCLUSION The curative effect of the three types of tympanoplasty is satisfactory.
