The genus Crataegus L. (Rosaceae) comprises about 280 species wide spread all over the world. Only Crataegus Almaatensis is an endemic plant of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is under study in order to confirm its possible application as a medicinal plant. In general the other known Crataegus species have cardiotonic, sedative and other positive medicinal effects for treating heart diseases due to containing the flavonoids, vitamins, minerals, organic acids. The main components responsible for cardiotonic affects are hyperoside and procyanidins [1], which are used to standardize Crataegus L. species. There is no large scale and full pharmacognostic, biological and phytochemical studies of the Crataegus Almaatensis . This abstract represents first stage study results. The Crataegus Almaatensis was studied against compendial requirements [2] and it was found that it does comply with required parameters as identification, impurities, loss on drying, total ash and assay. It was confirmed to contain not less than 1.0% procyanidins, calculated as cyanidin chloride (C12H11ClO6; Mr 322.7) with reference to the dried product, which is excellent confirmation of the possible cardio positive effects of the Crataegus Almaatensis.
