A 2D layered coordination polymer [Cu(4,4′-bipyridine)Cl]n(4,4′-bpy=4,4′-bipyridine) was synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction and characterized via elemental analysis and IR,single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.Crystal data are as follows: orthorhombic,I41/acd space group,a=1.422 0(2) nm,b=1.422 0(2) nm,c=3.865 0(8) nm,V =7.816(2) nm3,Z=16,Dc=1.735 Mg/m3,F(000) =4 096,μ=2.464 mm-1,R1 = 0.059 5 and wR2= 0.093 3.with I 2σ(I).The structural analysis reveals that in the complex,Cu(Ⅰ) ions and bpy molecules are linked by means of end to end,owing to the formation of a 1D corrugated chain,and then these chains are linked by two μ2-Cl bridges resulting in the 2D layered structure constructed.
