Electroreductive C–H activations with RuCl 3 · n H 2 O precatalyst proceed at exceedingly mild temperatures. Detailed mechanistic studies offer evidence for a cathodic ruthenium( iii / ii ) manifold, along with the involvement of a biscyclometalated species.
