We recently reported on 282 patients with stroke/TIA and cryptogenic stroke who had PFO closure by catheter intervention between 2006 and 2014 (2). After 8.4 years of follow-up, the rate of recurrent stroke was 3.2 events per 100 patient-years among patients with residual shunt versus 0.8 events per 100 patient-years for patients without shunt, occurring a median of 4 years after PFO closure. These findings are similar to those in Deng and colleagues' article, which reported 2.32 and 0.75 events per 100 patient-years in the shunt and no-shunt ...References1.
