Objective To study the interaction of PTEN,MMP2 and MMP9 in the proliferation and invasion of human gliomas. Methods The SP immunohistochemical method was used to measure the expression of those proteins in 50 gliomas with different grades. Results Expressions of those proteins were varied among different malignancy degree of glio-masl. Their differences of expression level among grade Ⅱ , grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ were statistically significant (P 0. 01) ; PTEN expression was negatively correlated with the expression of MMP2 and MMP9 ( rMMP2 = - 0. 27, rMMP9 = - 0. 35 , P 0. 01 ) . Conclusions Inactivation of PTEN will lead to the overexpression of MMP2 and MMP9, and enhances the prolieration and invation of gliomas.
