Biodegradable and renewable poly(lactide)–lignin composites: synthesis, interface and toughening mechanism

Lignin, a biomass, is grafted with biodegradable rubber to simultaneously toughen and strengthen poly(lactide) owing to strong matrix/filler interactions and the existence of rubber between “rigid” lignin and matrix facilitating force transfer and craze formation.
