There is an association between small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and common intestinal symptoms such as chronic diarrhea, bloating, and irritable bowel syndrome. At present, the main clinical diagnostic methods are invasive tests, and breath test is a non-invasive method for SIBO diagnosis that is more acceptable to patients. In this paper, a smart electronic nose for detecting exhaled breath was designed, which can detect the concentration of hydrogen, methane and hydrogen sulfide in alveolar gas to diagnose human intestinal bacteria. Electronic nose improved the measurement accuracy through chromatographic separation and carbon dioxide synchronous calibration technology. The detection range of hydrogen and methane was 1-180ppm with a resolution of 1ppm, and the detection range of hydrogen sulfide was 0.1ppm-1ppm with a resolution of 0.1ppm. The electronic nose had high repeatability and stability, and can be used for the detection of clinical samples. Besides, the smart data analysis and recognition algorithms had been developed to diagnose the SIBO.
