Immunochemical investigations inGeotrichumand certain related fungi

The chemical analysis of the polysaccharides extracted from strains of G. candidum, G. asteroides, G. javanense, G. matalense, G. pulmoneum, G. versiforme, E. lactis and E. magnusii showed that all contained the monosaccharides galactose, glucose and mannose. Quantitatively E. magnusii differed from the other strains in containing a very small amount of glucose. G. pulmoneum and E. lactis also showed slight differences in the quantitative distribution of the sugars from the remainder of the strains all of which contained the 3 sugars in the quantitative relation 1:3:2. G. amycelicum, G. hirtum and T. cutaneum contained xylose in addition to galactose, glucose and mannose. E. selenospora contained only glucose and mannose.
