The variations of the mean-motion kinetic energy and the eddy kinetic energy with scale of averaging are studied in a laboratory experiment of small-scale turbulence. Velocities and velocity products are spatially averaged for four different scales, and the energy terms are computed for each scale. It is found that, for increasing scale of averaging, there is a percentage decrease of mean-motion kinetic energy and a percentage increase of eddy kinetic energy.
