Polystyrene/poly(methyl methacrylate) core-shell latex particles were prepared by seed emulsion polymerization.The seed core of PS was prepared by using potassium persulphate(KPS) as initiator,styrene(St) as monomer,nonionic octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether(OP-10) and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)/OP-10(m(SDS):m(OP-10)=1:4) as emulsifier respectively.The coreshell particles with diameter of 0.16~0.67μm were obtained from the OP-10 emulsified seed latex by continuously dropping methyl methacrylate(MMA).The particle diameter is 0.18μm,particle diameter distribution coefficient is 0.012 when m(St):m(MMA)=3:7.The core-shell particle diameter is millimeter-scale when m(OP-10):m(SDS)=4:1.The differential scanning calorimetry indicates that glass transition temperature of composite particles obtained from the OP-10 emulsified seed latex is 97.2℃,peak shape is single,thermal property is good.
