Objective To summarize the experience and results of surgical treatment for double outlet of the right ventricle. Methods From January 1995 to September 2006, 108 patients with double outlet of the right ventricle with age ranging from 2 months to 23 years underwent surgical treatment. There were 86 subaortic ventricular septal defect, 12 command doubly committed ventricular septal defect, 8 subpulmonary ventricular septal defect, 2 noncommitted ventricular septal defect. Eighty patients underwent intraventricular tunnel and relive right ventricle outflow tract directly with pericardial patch or homograft valves conduits, 12 received Rastelli procedure, 11 Bidirection cavopulmnary connection, 3 total cavopulmonary connection, and 2 arterial switch operation. All patients underwent the procedure by cardiopulmonary bypass. Results Twelve cases died in the early postoperative period. Eighty-six patients were followed up from 3 months to 8 years. All patients were asymptomatic and did well in ordinary life. The cardiac function was in NYHA classⅠin 52 and classⅡin 34. The outcome was satisfactory. Conclusion There is a significant correlation between anatomy and surgical strategies. Position of ventricular septal defect and development of left ventricle significantly influence the surgical outcomes.
