Prognostic markers and response to vandetanib therapy in sporadic medullary thyroid cancer patients

Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) occurs sporadically in 75% of all cases. In patients with local disease prognosis is excellent. In metastatic disease 10-year survival is significantly decreased. For the therapy of progressive metastatic MTC patients two tyrosine kinase inhibitors, vandetanib and cabozantinib, are currently available.
