摘要
Rapid urban growth, climate change and associated heatwaves are driving concerning declines in air quality globally, which in turn are affecting city dwellers' physical and mental health. This chapter begins by outlining the interactions between urbanization patterns, heat and air quality. Discussion then addresses the various ways the structure, function and configuration of green infrastructure act to reduce air pollution and urban heat. The associated mental health benefits are emphasized. Relevant to contemporary landscape architecture research and practice, the public realm is examined in relation to green infrastructure planning and design with implications for the health and well-being of citizens.
