6H-dibenzoxaphosphorin-6-α-methyl-, methyl ester, propanoic acid, methyl-propanoic acid, methyl-ester)-6-oxide (DOPPMO), which as intumescent flame retardant, was prepared from 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxy-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO). Using melt intercalating method, organic cation intercalated into montmorillonite to get organo-montmorillonite (OMMT). Then DOPPMO and OMMT had mixed with polypropylene to preparate flame retardant materials. The microstructure of the composites was characterized by XRD、TEM and SEM. The flame retardant properties were studied via limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test (UL-94) and TGA. The mechanical properties were investigated by the tensile and impact experiments. The results showed that DOPPMO and OMMT had good synergistic effect of flame retardant, and mechanical properties of polypropylene remained unchanged.
