Characteristics of Early Electronic Music Composition in China’s Mainland

The mid-1980s saw the first attempts at professionalised composition of electronic music in China. A late start, though it was on a fast track. Early electronic music composers in China were from a group who had been first exposed to Western modern music, including electronic music. Their styles on the whole have somehow helped shape what Chinese electronic music looked like in later years, and left a special mark on the log of history. Based on such understanding, the research and summarisation of the early mode of electronic music creation in China are without doubt of paramount significance and value for capturing its early history, evaluating its current development and inspiring its national character for the future.
