Gout Medication Receives Black Box Warning

The gout medication febuxostat (Uloric) now carries a black box warning that it increases the risk of cardiovascular death in people with preexisting cardiovascular disease. NPs should prescribe febuxostat only if use of allopurinol fails to control gout or isn't tolerated.
