We report a case of this disease in a patient with an atypical presentation that consisted of prolonged fever and progressive severe pancytopenia, but no spleen enlargement or hyperglobulinemia.A 35-year-old white man who reported only occasional intravenous drug abuse and heterosexual promiscuity (one of his sex partners was positive for human immunodeficiency virus [HIV] ) was hospitalized in May 1988 for...References1.
