An Analysis of Body Mass Parameters of Urban and Rural Adult Residents in Hebei Province in 2004

Objective To investigate the body mass parameters and the prevalence of overweight obesity in Hebei provice in 2004.Methods Using multiple stage randomized method,4 200 adult residents were performed for measuring body mass parameters and status of overweight or obesity,while analyzing the risk factors for overweight and obesity in different population.Results The body mass parameters in the city were higher than those in the country in male(P0.01),and the height,weight and hip circumference(HC) were higher in the city than in the country in female.Height,weight,Waist circumference(WC),and ratio of Waist vs hip(WHR) were higher in male than in female while HC and body mass index(BMI) were higher in female than in male.The leading three subpopulations with higher average WC,HC and BMI were civil servants,staff in office,and retired people with full pay.The prevalence of overweight or obesity was increased with the age.BMI was higher in city than in country no matter male or female.This difference was outstanding particularly in the group of over 65 yr.BMI and WC were declined with education level increasing in urban and rural female but was opposite in rural male(P0.01).BMI and WC were increased with the family income increasing in urban female and in urban rural male.Conclusion The body mass parameters were different between sex,occupation and living areas.In general,most of parameters were higher in city than in country.Overweight and obesity were closely related to occupation,living area,education levels and family income.
