The feasibility of producing needle coke from two different feedstock oils in laboratory was evaluated. The results showed that the feedstock oil 2 is a suitable feedstock for needle coke, while the feedstock oil 1 is not.The influences of the carbonization temperature, pressure and time on the formation of coke during coking were investigated. The results showed that the suitable parameters of producing needle coke during delayed coking from the feedstock oil 2 were: the temperature of 480~500 ℃,the press of increasing to 2 MPa then decreasing to 1 MPa and the coking time of 7 hours. The influences of the calcining temperature, heating rate and calcining time on the quality of coke during calcining process were also investigated.
