STUDY ON PREPARATION OF Ф 450mm HP GRAPHITE ELECTRODES FROM A MIXTURE OF JINX I PETROLEUM COKE AND CGG NEEDLE COKE

The properties and characteristics of Jinxi petroleum coke and the pe troleum- based needle coke from CGG were analyzed. Ф 450 mm HP graphite elect rodes were made from a mixture of the Jinxi petroleum coke and the petroleum- b ased needle coke from CGG. On the basis of these experiments a process for makin g HP graphite electrodes with mixed cokes as precursor was proposed. It has been demonstrated that with the mixture coke made of the Jinxi petroleum coke and th e CGG petroleum- based needle coke as starting material, it is possible to manu facture HP grade graphite electrodes with a diameter of Ф 450 mm under the opti mized conditions.
