Objective To investigate the role of somatosensory evoked potential in resection of glioma near central sulcus. Methods The clinical data of 32 patients with gliomas near central sulcus was retrospectively analyzed. The glioma was located by somatosensory evoked potential and resected. Results The lesions were totally removed in 29 cases and subtotally in 3. The preoperative neurological dysfunction were improved in 10 cases,remained no change in 11,improved after transient deterioration in 8,and permanently deteriorated in 3. There was no operative mortality. Conclusion Intraoperative location of the central sulcus by somatosensory evoked potential allows a maximum resection of gliomas and protection of brain function,thus being a reliable,precise and safe method.
