Biochemical and Pharmacological Studies with d- and l-5-Hydroxytryptophan

The d and l forms of 5-hydroxy-tryptophan were prepared. Only the l form was found to be acted on by 5HTP decarboxylase, to increase brain serotonin levels in vivo, and to be pharmacologically active.
