One of the exciting advances in endocrinology has been the discovery of a family of peptidic neurohormones in the hypothalamus that stimulate or inhibit the secretion of adenohypophysial hormones. This article briefly reviews the evolution of present understanding of one of these neurohormones, the luteinizing-hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH).
