Abstract Zinc ferrite (ZFO) has been explored for energy storage applications due to the combination of magnetic and electrical properties, making it potentially viable to participate in redox reactions, which are key in energy storage devices like batteries and supercapacitors. This work reports the use of ZFO nanoparticles, which have been synthesized by the auto combustion method. Further, ZFO has been transformed into a conducting composite by blending it with reduced graphene oxide in varied weight percentages for its application as a cathode in zinc‐ion batteries. Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries are a potential next‐generation battery technology. Enhanced performance was observed for an equal weight percentage of ZFO and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) (ZR1:1). The average specific capacity obtained for a full cell battery with ZR1:1 is 27.7 mAh/g at the current density of 0.1 A/g. This study offered novel insights and strategies for high‐performing cathodes for aqueous zinc ion batteries.
