摘要
Although liquid crystalline materials are sometimes thought of as an odd state of matter, they have had a significant impact on contemporary technology. Liquid crystals, which have their origins in cholesterol derivatives, are a material that biomedical engineers and biologists deal with regularly. Since liquid crystal systems have distinct microstructures and physicochemical characteristics, they are garnering a lot of interest. Researchers and developers working in the formulation development field are increasingly choosing liquid crystals as their system of choice. A liquid crystal system can be used to efficiently deliver drugs to desired biological targets. Three factors contribute to the formation of liquid crystalline phases:chirality, micro segregation effects, and molecular shape. The purpose of this reviewwas to give an overview of the many types of liquid crystal systems and how they are prepared. Pharmaceutical liquid crystals and their significance in targeted drug delivery systems are to be scientifically highlighted in this review paper. This review's primary goal is to give comprehensive information on pharmaceutical liquid crystal technology, including the most recent and cutting-edge technological advancements.
