The value of ultrasound to evaluate therapeutic effect of lateral accessory ligament injury of ankle

Objective To explore the possibility of ultrasound(US) using on evaluating therapeutic effect of lateral accessory ligament injury of ankle.Methods Ultrasonography with 7-13 MHz liner prober was performed in 33 patients with lateral accessory ligament injury,who were given by conservation or operation treatment one month,three to six months ago.Fourteen of those patients were given by conservation or operation treatment six to eighteen months ago.We observed tibionavicular ligament,anterior tibiotalar ligament,tibiocalcanean ligament,anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament.Results The recovery condition about ankle ligament prior-treatment and post-treatment can be observed directly by US.The ultrasonographic standard for therapeutic review of lateral accessory ligament injury of ankle was divided into 4 classes:0,Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ.The anterior talofibular ligament was the most frequent injury and difficult reablement of those ligaments.The tibionavicular ligament and anterior tibiotalar ligament were recuperated quickly by treatment.Conclusion Ultrasonography is a direct,non-invasive and low price method for evaluating therapeutic effect of lateral accessory ligament injury of ankle.
