Adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy for treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome

【Objective】To investigate the therapeutic effect of adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy for treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) 【Methods】Forty-two children with OSAHS underwent the adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy under general anesthesia.Preoperative and postoperative(6 to 12months later) parameters of polysomnograph were compared.The follow-up period was 6 to 12 months.【Results】Neither infection nor bleeding or postoperative acute obstruction occurred in all children.Snoring,anischuria and open-mouth breathing were all markedly improved.Patients showed cured in 24 cases(57.14%),greatly improved in 12 cases(28.57%),improved in 6 cases(14.29%),and failed in 0 case.【Conclusions】adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy was an effective treatment for pediatric OSAHS.
