In order to investigate the effect of cosolvent on the dyeing of terylene fabric in supercritical carbon dioxide. The uptake of disperse red 54 and its partition coefficients between the phases were evaluated over the temperature range from 70 to 110 ℃ and pressure from 14 to 22 MPa in supercritical CO_2 with or without ethanol. It was found that the uptakes of dye were effectively enhanced with the addition of the cosolvent and the cosolvent effect decreased with increasing tempreature. The influence of the amount of cosolvent on dye uptake was significant at low temperature while this effect become much slighter when the temperature was relatively high. The partition coefficients of dye were also affected by the cosolvent,it increased with the addition of cosolvent at low temperature, but with the rise of temperature, the presence of the cosolvent favours the dye partition towards the fluid phase.
