Objective To investigate the effect of pirarubicin in the second transurethral resection of bladder tumor. Methods Fifty patients with urothelial carcinoma were divided into two groups: one was the second transurethral resection group(TURB-t group) and another was TURB-t plus pirarubicin instillation group(TURB-t+THP group). In the TURB-t group routine TURB-t was applied while in the TURB-t+THP group,40 mg of pirarubicin was instilled into bladder before operation. Results All patients were followedup for 24 months after operation. In the TURB-t group,6 patients progressed and 16 patients suffered from recurrence while in the TURB-t+THP group 3 patients progressed and 11 patients suffered from recurrence. The differences were statistically significant. Conclusion The preoperational instillation of pirarubicin could improve the patients' prognosis with bladder-urothelial carcinoma.
