Sub‐aortic membrane – A three‐dimensional echocardiographic perspective

Abstract Introduction Subaortic membrane is an uncommon cause of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. Discussion Whereas traditionally described of as a membrane, it is in fact a discreet circumferential shelf of raised endocardium in the left ventricular outflow tract, causing a fixed outflow obstruction. The circumferential nature of subaortic membranes is poorly appreciated on 2‐dimensional imaging. Conclusion Using a three‐dimensional imaging and recently available on‐cart rendition techniques of acquired images, we were able to better visualize the true extent of a sub‐aortic membrane while also gaining insight into its origin and structure.
