Six-membered ring systems: pyridines and benzo derivatives

The class of pyridines and their benzo derivatives maintain prominence in the synthetic literature due to their versatility and chemical and biological properties. These scaffolds continue to be utilized as chemo- and stereoselective ligands and have been crafted into elaborate structures with immense potential in materials science, polymer chemistry, and drug discovery. Herein a number of recently disclosed synthetic approaches involving these aromatic heterocycles are presented, some of which focus on metal-free and green approaches.
