Does Sphincter of Oddi Manometry Cause Pancreatitis

Sphincter of Oddi manometry (SOM) is the reference standard for assessing sphincter of Oddi dysfunction (SOD), but SOM has been associated with high risk for postprocedure pancreatitis. In this retrospective, multicenter U.S. study, researchers compared rates of postprocedure pancreatitis among 113 patients with suspected SOD (53 underwent SOM before endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography [ERCP], and 60 underwent ERCP alone) and in 155 randomly selected controls with ERCP-documented bile-duct stones.
