Novel fungal diphenyl ether biosynthetic gene clusters encode a promiscuous oxidase for elevated antibacterial activities

This work describes a novel pathway for fungal diphenyl ether (DPE) biosynthesis, including a promiscuous hydroxylase whose substrate range is modulated by its C -terminus. DPEs may provide antibiotics against multidrug-resistant human pathogens.
