Abstract Cold-formed steel has many advantages such as high strength, light weight, good economy, and high construction efficiency, which is conducive to the industrialization and green development of buildings. The frame structure has many advantages, such as a flexible spatial layout, easy handling of facades, and simple construction. This study analyzes the seismic performance of cold-formed steel frame structures from three influencing factors: the floor numbers, the cross-sectional dimensions of cold-formed steel, and the strength of steel. The results indicate that the main factors affecting the seismic performance of cold-formed steel frame structures are the cross-sectional dimension and strength of the steel. The smaller the cross-sectional size of the steel is, the smaller the bending stiffness of the frame is, and the poorer the recoverability of the structure is. Under the same cross-sectional size, when the thickness of the steel is reduced by half, the horizontal bearing capacity of the structure approaches 48%. The higher the strength of the steel is, the faster its bearing capacity decreases and the worse its hysteresis performance is.
