摘要
Previous LCD-based compressive light field (CLF) display suffers from low brightness caused by the low transmittance of LCD. To achieve high brightness, the number of LCDs is limited, resulting in restricted depth of field and image quality. Different from conventional CLF display only using passively modulated device LCD, we propose a hybrid modulation method to handle the light intensity by combining the active modulation of the backlight and the passive modulation of the LCD. Therefore, two kinds of hybrid modulation, based on the local dimming backlight and the high-density RGB mini-LED backlight, are proposed to improve the image quality while maintaining the brightness of the CLF display. Then, the smoothing light field decomposition algorithm with the temporal filter is proposed to solve the flicker issue caused by the hybrid light ray modulation. Last, the effect of backlight resolution and multi-color characteristics on the reconstruction quality is analyzed. Compared to the CLF display with uniform backlight, the reconstruction accuracy of the hybrid modulation with the local dimming backlight and mini-LED backlight achieves Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) improvement by 1.66dB and 4.29dB, respectively. The optical experiments also demonstrate that the proposed method could achieve a high-resolution, high-quality, and flicker-free CLF display.
