Tuning on and off chemical- and photo-activity of exfoliated MoSe2 nanosheets through morphologically selective “soft” covalent functionalization with porphyrins

Thiol-terminated porphyrins are covalently attached to 2D-MoSe₂ edges. The HER activity is enhanced (or suppressed) by the presence (or absence) of hydroxyl groups in the porphyrin. The porphyrin/MoSe₂ hybrid forms a type II heterojunction with improved photoactivity.
