摘要
Driven by the fast integration of renewable energy, power systems have an increasing need for flexible resources. Energy storage (ES) technologies provide an attractive solution to facilitate the integration of renewable resources due to energy shifting and fast-ramping capabilities. Among all the ES technologies, pumped hydro storage (PHS) is the most commercially mature utility-scale ES technology. This paper aims at quantifying the performance of PHS in supporting renewable integrated power systems. The role of PHS is analyzed and a multi-timescale evaluation method is proposed based on the functions and applied scenarios studied in this paper. A case study of Pushihe station in northeast China is demonstrated to verify the practicality of the proposed quantitative evaluation method.
