To investigate the energy transfers and tunable luminescence, Eu 2+ /Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ -doped Y 2 Mg 2 Al 2 Si 2 O 12 phosphors were synthesized by sintering at a temperature of 1400 °C. The phase and luminescence characteristics were investigated subsequently. The XRD results indicate that the synthesized phosphors have the pure phase and garnet structure. Eu 2+ /Ce 3+ -, Eu 2+ /Mn 2+ - and Eu 2+ /Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ -doped phosphors show tunable luminescence because of the energy transfer processes from Eu 2+ to Ce 3+ and Mn 2+ . White lights with different correlated color temperatures are generated by the synthesized phosphors. The dependence of the emission intensity on temperature shows that the thermal quenching temperature of the Y 1.955 Eu 0.030 Ce 0·015 Mg 1·985 Mn 0·015 Al 2 Si 2 O 12 phosphor is higher than 175 °C. Our results demonstrate that the synthesized phosphors can be applied to near-ultraviolet LED chip-excited white-light-emitting diodes. • Synthesis of Eu 2+ /Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ doped Y 2 Mg 2 Al 2 Si 2 O 12 phosphors. • Energy transfer processes from Eu 2+ to Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ . • Generation of warm white light by Eu 2+ /Ce 3+ /Mn 2+ doped Y 2 Mg 2 Al 2 Si 2 O 12 phosphors.
