Graphene Oxide Nanodisks and Nanodots

Graphene and graphene-derived materials such as graphene oxide and exfoliated graphene sheets have generated an extraordinary amount of interest among researchers across virtually in all scientific disciplines. This is mainly due to the presence of covalently bound oxygen functional groups in graphene materials as well as hexagonal lattice arrangement of carbon atoms with very strong sp2 hybridized bonds in a two-dimensional matrix offering remarkable structural, mechanical, and electronic properties. This chapter will cover the fundamental principles involved in synthesizing graphene oxide nanomaterials of different morphology with a particular emphasis on graphene nanodisks and nanodots and the applications of such materials in various areas.
