Background and Aims: Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) inflammation plays a central role in insulin resistance (IR) resulting in an increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Circulating adiponectin is considered a proxy of VAT dysfunction. 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (18F-FDG) uptake in VAT on PET scan is believed to reflect VAT inflammation, providing a potential early CVD risk marker in T2D. Aim of this study is to investigate this marker and its relation with IR.
