A model investigation of squeeze-film lubrication in animal joints

Theoretical and experimental work on squeeze-film lubrication is briefly described. Current theories of animal joint lubrication are discussed in the light of the results. It is suggested that 'weeping' and filtration through the cartilage do not make substantial contributions to the lubrication mechanism.
