Synthesis of N ‐Boc‐ N ‐Hydroxymethyl‐L‐Phenylalaninal

Abstract Procedures yielding (4S)‐4‐benzyl‐3‐[(1,1‐dimethylethoxy)carbonyl]‐5‐oxazolidinone ( 1 ) and N‐[(1,1‐dimethylethoxy)carbonyl]‐N‐hydroxymethyl‐L‐phenylalaninal ( 2 ) are presented. A one‐necked round‐bottomed flask with a Teflon‐coated magnetic stir bar is used. A discussion on α‐amino aldehydes as chiral synthons in asymmetric synthesis of nitrogen‐containing natural and synthetic products concludes the chapter.
